RECENT NORTH KOREAN
COIN SET
This recent 4 coin set from North Korea includes the aluminum 5, 10, 50
and 100 Won. The coins bear two dates, one in the Juche
dating system, which is based on the birth of North Korea's founder,
Kim Il Sung in 1911. The other is the AD date. The
coins are dated Juche 94 and AD 2005. The designs are simple,
with the denomination on one side and the arms of the Democratic
Peoples Republic of Korea on the other.

ISRAEL MINT SETS BELOW ISSUE PRICE
We
offered a few of these official Israel Mint sets in our latest catalog-
and immediately sold out. It is easy to understand why.
They are attractive, historic and inexpensive. We
managed to get another batch. I have lots more dates
available, but only a limited quantity of most of them, so these will
probably sell out quickly as well. The
coins feature designs
from the nations ancient heritage. The scalloped edged 1
Agorot features three barley ears, a design taken from the ancient
pruta coin of Agrippa I in 43AD. The 5 Agorot features three
pomegranates, a motif taken from the frieze from the 3rd Century
Capernaum Synagogue. A seven-branched date palm on the 10
Agorot
appeared on the ancient Roman "Judea Capta" (70AD) and Bar
Kokhba
Revolt (132-135AD) coins The 25 Agorot features a
three-stringed
lyre, similar to that which appeared on coins of the Bar Kokhba
Revolt.. A seven-branched Menorah, the Emblem of Israel,
appears
on the 1/2 Lirah and 1
Lira issued from 1965 to 1967. The later 1 Lira coins depict
three pomegranates, a design taken from the Jewish coins of the First
Revolt against Rome. The coins come in their original
official
mint-sealed
holder. The sets from 1965 to 1969 come in a card. The 1970
set comes in either a card or a wallet. The 1971 to 1977 sets
come in a hard plastic case. The 1979 set comes in either a
wallet or a hard plastic case and includes a 5 Lirah coin, making it a
seven coin set. The 1980 is an unusual transition set issued in the
year Israel transitioned from the Lira to the Sheqel as their monetary
unit. The seven coin set contains the 1 Lira, 10 Agorot and 1
Agora, from the old monetary system, plus the new 1/2 Sheqel, 10 new
Agorot, 5 new Agorot and 1 new Agora.
Some coins in some of the earlier sets may be a
bit spotted, however our price is LESS than what most of the
sets originally sold for over 30 years ago!

HAITI COIN SET HONORS NATIONAL HEROES
Haiti is the world’s oldest Black Republic, having achieved
independence from France in 1804. Nearly all of the country’s 5 million
inhabitants are descendants from the original 480,000 African
Slaves. It has been in the news due to the disastrous
earthquake
it experienced on January 12, 2010. The five coin set
includes
the 5, 20 and 50 Centimes, and the multi-sided 1 and 5
Gourdes.
Four heroes of Haitian independence are shown on the 5
Gourdes:
Toussaint Louveture, Henri Christophe (who constructed the
Citadelle Laferriere), Jean Jacques Dessalines and Alexandre
Petion. The 1 Gourde shows the famous Citadelle Laferriere,
built
in the early 1800's at a tremendous cost and loss of life to protect
against an expected French invasion that never came. The 50, 20 and 5
Centimes portray Charlemagne Peralte, who led a guerilla movement
against the United States occupation of Haiti during World War
I.
The obverse of each coin features the Haitian arms which includes
cannons, guns, flags and a palm tree. The coins date from
1991 to
2003 and are Uncirculated.

JAMAICA COIN SET HONORS NATIONAL HEROES
This set includes the six coins Jamaica currently issues for
circulation, from 10 Cents to 20 dollars. Jamaican born
Marcus
Garvey, a vocal advocate of Black Pride in New York City during the
1920s appears on the bimetallic 20 Dollar coin and the copper 25 Cent
coin. The scalloped edged 10 Dollar coin pictures George
William
Gordon, a 19th century politician who tried to improve the well being
of Blacks in Jamaica. Paul Bogle his associate appears on the 10 cent
coin. Both were hanged in 1865 for their efforts.
Norman
Manley appears on the 5 Dollar coin, while Alexander Bustamante is on
the
seven-sided dollar coin. They both helped Jamaica
gain
independence. The coins date from 1996 to
2006. The
coins are Uncirculated, however may have scratches or nicks due to
improper handling at the mint.

MYANMAR COIN SET
Myanmar, formerly known as Burma,
was
at the time of its independence
one
of the richest nations in Asia. Due to continued misrule it
is
now one of the poorest. Its inability to respond to its
recent
diasterous flooding and its refusal to accept outside aid showed the
paranoa and ineptness of the ruling military juanta. Due to
continued inflation, Myanmar introduced a new series of coins in
1999. The four coin set included the 5, 10, 50 and 100
Kyats.
The coins feature a stylized Burmese lion on one side and the
denomination on the other. The coins were struck at the Myanmar mint
located in Prome, one of the oldest cities in the country.

MODERN COINS OF
THAILAND
This five coin set includes the recent 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50
Satang of
Thailand. All coins have the King on the obverse.
The lower
three denominations have the Thai arms supported by two elephants on
the reverse. The 25 and 50 Satang show a temple on the
reverse.

This attractive 4 coin set from Bangladesh includes some
new
issues. The 2001 multi-sided 50 Poisha features fish and
agricultural products. The 2003 1 Taka is a new variety struck in
copper-nickel. The design encourages family
planning.
Children are shown reading on the new 2004 2 Taka coin. The Karnaphuli
dam is on the multi-sided 1996 5 Taka. The reverses
feature a stylized lotus blossom floating on water, a fitting symbol
for a nation that much of which is barely above sea-leval and floods
regularly. All four coins are Uncirculated.

COIN SET FEATURES BIRDS AND
PLANTS
This set includes five current coins of Indonesia, all struck in
aluminum.
One side of the coins featuren the national arms. The other
side
shows
native birds and plants. The 500 Rupiah features the Bunga
Melati,
one of the national flowers of Indonesia. A Balinese Starling
bird
is on the 200 Rupiah coin. A Cockatoo is on the 100
Rupiah.
The 50 Rupiah pictures a bloack-naped
Oriole.
Nutmeg plants, a major crop, are on the 25 Rupiah. All five
coins
are
Uncirculated.

GREECE HONORS ITS PAST
Few nations have a history as long and as rich as that of
Greece.
This
ancient heritage is reflected on its recent coins. The five
coin
set
includes the 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 Drachmai.
Portrayed
on
the
coins are famous ancient Greeks, including Aristotle and Democritus,
as
well as heroes of modern Greek
independence.
The 1 Drachma portrays a sailing ship on the reverse. The
coins
have since been replaced by the Euro, so are no longer available in
circulation. But who knows, with the way the Greek government
is
running huge deficits they may have to go back to the Drachmai soon.
All coins are brilliant Uncirculated.

Malta, located in the Mediterranean Sea, is the smallest of the new

Union members. Its coins are the hardest to obtain of the new European
Union members. This seven coin set includes the 1 Cent that

a crab, the 10 cents showing a dolphin fish, the 20 cents with the

This set includes three
Uncirculated Luxembourg coins, each over fifty years
old.
Included is the copper-nickel 5 Franc picturing Grand Duchess
Charlotte, who ruled the country from 1919 to 1964. The coin
was
struck only a single year, in 1949. The 1953 copper-nickel 1 Franc
shows a steelworker. The 1954 aluminum 25 centimes features
the
nations arms. It is an attractive set from a small European
nation.

ANDORRA
Andorra
is a tiny nation located in the Pyrenees between France and
Spain.
In 2002 both France and Spain switched to the Euro. It was
expected
that Andorra would also issue Euro coins. Unfortunately
Andorra
failed
to sign a monetary treaty with either France or Spain, so the European
Central Bank did not allow
them
to issue any Euro coins. Instead they came out with an issue
using
their existing monetary system. This 2002 three coin set
includes three
different aluminum
1 Centime coins. They feature a The Lamb of God, a chamois
goat,
and
King Charlemagne. The Andorra It is an
attractive and
inexpensive
set from a tiny nation.

RECENT COIN SETS FROM
GUERNSEY AND JERSEY
Jersey and Guernsey are British crown dependencies in the English
Channel off the coast of France. They represent the last
remnants
of the great medieval Dukedom of Normandy that once controlled much of
France and England. They each have their own
coinage. The 8
coin set from Guernsey includes the bi-metallic 2003 2 pounds, the
2006 1 Pound, the seven-sided 2006 50 Pence that pictures
Freesia
flowers, the seven-sided 2006 20 Pence depicting a map of the island,
the 2006 10 Pence depicting a tomato plant, the 2006 5 pence that
pictures a sailboat, the 2006 2 Pence showing cow and the 2006 1 Pence
showing a crab. From Jersey we have a six coin
set.
Included is the seven-sided 50 Pence which pictures the ruins of
Grosnez Castle, the seven-sided 20 Pence that shows the

lighthouse, the 10 Pence that depicts La Hougue Bie, a Neolithic burial

San Marino is a tiny, mountainous country completely surrounded by
Italy. This five coin set from San Marino includes some attractive
designs. The 1995 1 Lire features a young child with an olive
branch standing on a broken sword. The 1994 10 and 100 Lire
features St. Marino on one side and various stone cutters building San
Marino on the other. The 2000 10 Lire portrays a child and a
poinsettia with the globe behind. The 20 Lire shows a pair of
hands about to grasp. All five coins are Uncirculated.
