FIJI
TRI-METALIC WILDLIFE SOCCER COIN
SET
Fiji tried to find something for everyone in this set! The
coins are tri-metallic featuring African wildlife and the soccer
stadiums in South Africa where the World Cup games were played.
The only thing they did not do was get permission from FIFA,
which caused some major European dealers to discontinue offering the
set. The set contains ten tri-metal 1 Dollar coins
from Fiji dated 2010. The obverse of each coin features Queen
Elizabeth. The reverse of each coin depicts an African animal
peering into one of the stadiums where the World Cup games were played.
The Leopard looks like it is about to reach down and eat the
spectators, using the stadium as a bowl. Or perhaps the elephant is
about to trample through the stadium and go after the ball. The 40mm
coins have a
copper-nickel outer ring, brass middle ring and a copper center.
Each coin is in its own capsule and comes with a certificate
of authenticity, however the set does not come in a box. Only
2010 sets were minted. It is an attractive and unusual set
that should be popular with bi-metal collectors, wildlife collectors
and sports fans.

Budapest. At the time the bridge was built, its center span

COIN OF THE BRITISH INDIAN OCEAN
TERRITORY

The British
Indian Ocean
Territory consists of Chagos Archipelago, with over 1,000 individual
islands. The largest island is Diego Garcia, the site of a
joint
military facility of the United Kingdom and the United
States.
Great Britain created the territory in 1965 by splitting the islands
from what was then its colony of Mauritius. It then purchased
and
closed down the copra plantations on Diego Garcia and removed the
entire population in order to create a major air and naval base, which
it leased to the United States. Since then the original
inhabitants have been trying to return to their homeland. The
other islands in the archipelago are uninhabited. In 2009 the
British Indian Ocean Territory issued its first coin: a 38.6mm
copper-nickel 2 Pound coin. The coin pictures the arms of the territory
supported by two turtles on one side and Queen Elizabeth on the
other. There must not be much happening in the Territory as
the
coin commemorates itself - “The First Commemorative Coin of the British
Indian Ocean Territory”. The coin is an official
issue
struck by the Pobjoy mint in Uncirculated condition.

HONORS FIRST POLISH SETTERS IN AMERICA WITH SILVER & GLASS AND
NORDIC GOLD COINS

A
group of about eight craftsmen and artisans from Poland were part of
the second party of settlers
to join the Jamestown settlement in Virginia. They arrived in
1608, just two years after
the founding of Jamestown as the first permanent
English settlement in North America. Included in the party
were glass makers who
built a first glass smelting furnace, allowing for the production of
jars and
windowpanes. To mark the 400th
anniversary of these early settlers, Poland issued a silver and glass
10
Zlotych and a “Nordic Gold” (A brass alloy) 2
Zlote.
The 10 Zlote has a glass center picturing a
glass blower surrounded by a silver ring. Various images of the
settlers and
their craft are pictured on the silver ring. The silver has an antiqued
finish.
The coin comes in a (slightly scratched) protective plastic
capsule.
The Uncirculated 27mm 2 Zlote
