BRITISH
CARIBBEAN
TERRITORIES HALF CENT

The British Caribbean Territories - Eastern Group, was a
monetary
union
created in 1950 to provide a common currency for a number of Britain’s
colonies
in the Caribbean. Included were British Guiana (now Guyana),
British
Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Antigua, St. Kitts, Nevis, Grenada, St.
Lucia,
St. Vincent and Dominica. The British Carribbean Territories was
replaced
by the East Caribbean States
when the
territories
gained independence from Great Britain in the 1960's and
1970's. This
bronze 1955 half cent was one of the first coins issued for the
Territories. Pictured on the coin is Queen Elizabeth. Even though the
coin was not poular due to its minimal buying power, the coin was again
struck again in 1958. For many years the 1958 British
Caribbean Territories 1/2 Cent was an extremely scarce coin, with only
20 specimens known and selling for hudreds of dollars. Until
a bank bag of them was discovered being used as a door stop at a bank
in the territory!

GARUDA BIRD ON 19th
CENTURY CAMBODIAN 2 PE

A
mythical Garuda bird is featured on the obverse of the Cambodian 2
Pe. The reverse of the 14mm copper coin has inscriptions in
Cambodian. The undated coin was struck about 1880 under the reign of
Cambodian King Norodom I. Norodom was elected to the throne
in 1860, but was not crowned until 1864 because the royal regalia was
held by Siam. In 1863 he was forced to sign a treaty with
France which gave control over the country's foreign
relations. France gained further control over the nation
during his reign and it became part of French Indo China in 1887,
bringing and end to Cambodia's coinage until it regained independence
in 1953.

sakura (cherry blossom) cartouche. It was struck only two years: Showa

SILVER
JAPANESE 1964 TOKYO OLYMPIC COMMEMORATIVE

This
silver Japanese 100 Yen was issued to commemorate the 1964 Summer
Olympics held in Tokyo. The Games were the first Olympics to be held in
Asia and marked Japan's re-emergence as an economic power. It was the
first Olympic games to be broadcast live by satellite and the first to
be broadcast in color. This was
Japan's first commemorative coin and only the third time a coin had
been issued to commemorate the modern Olympics. Unlike most
Olympic
coins
today that made to be sold to collectors at exorbitant prices then
quickly drop in value, these silver 100 Yen Olympic coins were
available at Japanese banks at their face value of about 28
cents.
Though they have substantially increased in value since then, they are
still one of the least expensive silver Olympic coins on the market.
Featured on the coin is the Olympic torch and rings. The other side has
the denomination, the words "
TOKYO
1964"
and the date in the Japanese Showa Era calendar. The 22.5mm
coin is
truck in .600 fine silver and contains .0926 troy ounces of silver. The
coins are Uncirculated, though may be slightly toned.

THE FROG ON
STATE OF
JEFFERSON
2023 SILVER COIN

The
State of Jefferson is a proposed new state made up of rural areas of
northern California and southern Oregon. The movement has
attracted many conservatives in the area whose opinions and values are
overshowed and outvoted by the liberal cities in California and
Oregon. Voters or the Board of Supervisors in 21 northern
California counties have approved resolutions in support of seceding
from California. That represents over 36% of the state's
counties. Driving through the region I have seen many signs
supporting the movement. Smallforest Mint, a small, private
mint in Oregon has struck coins for the State of Jefferson.
The 2023 issue is denominated at 25 Jeff Dollars. The obverse
features the Great Seal of the State of Jefferson, which features a
gold mining pan with two Xs. The two Xs are known as the
"Double Cross" and signify the regions' sense of abandonment by their
state governments. The coin commemorates The Celebrated
Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, a short story by Mark
Twain. The coin depicts Pepe the Frog, a meme that is used by
some right wing movements. The 32mm coin is hand struck in sterling
silver.

LIBERLAND
COIN

The
Free Republic of Liberland was founded in 2015. It is located on a
7 sq. kilometer (2.7 sq. miles) area on the Danube River between Serbia
and Croatia known as Gornja Siga. Because of the shifting
path of the river, neither country claimed the territory, so it was
claimed by Czech politician and activist Vit Jedlicka. He is
attempting to establish a libertarian nation on the property.
Though Croatia does not claim the territory, it does not allow anyone
to enter the territory either, which has made it difficult to establish
the new nation. That however has not stopped over 400,000
people from registering for citizenship on its website. This
5
Merits coin was struck for Liberland in 2017. One side of the 30.5mm
brass coin depicts the Liberland coat-of-arms, the other side features
the denomination.

2004 GUITAR COIN SET FROM
SOMALI REPUBLIC
The multi-colored Guitar coins have were unbelievably popular
with coin

These multi-color guitar coins are designed after famous electric
guitars.
The coins are dated 2004 and were issued to commemorate the 50th
anniversary
of Rock 'n Roll. The designs include the classic red and
white Fender
Stratocaster, an American Flag stars and stripes Gibson Flying V, a

Gibson Flying V, a pink star Guitar used by various rock
stars including
Gary Glitter and Abba, a blue Gibson X-Plorer and a yellow
Klein.
These six pieces complete the 2004 original series.
The coins are 1 Dollar legal tender coins issued by the
Somali Republic
(though I seriously doubt any have ever circulated in
Somalia). They
are approximately 45mm (1.75 inches) long and are silver plated.
